A greenhouse on the rooftop of the Hub, along with a community garden, reduces the reliance on conventional, energy intensive means of accessing food for the Social Gardener Cafe. By utilizing produce from the greenhouse and garden to supplement the ingredients at the Cafe not only will the transportation costs and 'food miles' be greatly reduced but the Hub is able to provide healthy, local, organic food to our community at affordable prices. With the possibility of extending the growing season of the planters through the use of garden hoops, the Hub will be able to prolong its gardening capabilities into the winter months, maximizing the harvesting time and use of the rooftop initiative.
